Anthony Cano Moncada is an international economist specializing in global value chains, trade policy, and economic transformation. His work focuses on how production networks are being reshaped by technological change, geopolitical fragmentation, and the transition toward more resilient and sustainable economic systems.
He served as Project Manager, Associate Editor, and co-author of Chapter II of the Global Value Chain Development Report 2025, a flagship multilateral publication produced in collaboration with the World Trade Organization, Asian Development Bank, World Economic Forum, IDE-JETRO, and the University of International Business and Economics. In this role, he led the development of a Global Value Chain Readiness Index covering more than 130 economies, integrating indicators across technology, trade and logistics, sustainability, and institutional capacity to support cross-country benchmarking and policy analysis.
His work has contributed to policy discussions at the World Trade Organization in Geneva, as well as engagements in Beijing and Washington, D.C., involving multilateral institutions, academic partners, and private-sector stakeholders. As a contributor to the World Economic Forum, he authored How Africa is Harnessing Technology to Leapfrog Towards Green Growth, examining the intersection of digital infrastructure, energy systems, and trade integration across emerging markets.
His broader research agenda explores the interaction between digitalization, industrial policy, and sustainability in shaping next-generation global value chains, with a focus on emerging economies.
Anthony’s professional experience includes roles in international economic research, financial markets, and institutional program management, including Morgan Stanley and Johns Hopkins University. He specializes in quantitative analysis, multi-source data integration, and the translation of complex economic systems into decision-relevant insights.
He holds a Master of Arts in International Relations (Trade and Economic Policy) from American University and a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County. He is bilingual in English and Spanish and publishes independent geoeconomic analysis through The Geoeconomic Signal.
